Often the velocity of a moving body changes as the motion proceeds. The body is then said to have an acceleration. The acceleration of a particle is the rate of change of its velocity with time. If at the instant t1 a particle is moving with the instantaneous velocity v1, and at a later instant t2 it moves with the instantaneous velocity v2, average acceleration is the change of velocity divided by the time interval.
